Soil and Groundwater Remediation Services
After soil and/or groundwater contamination has been identified and delineated through the site assessment and investigation process, a remedial action approach and workplan that is designed to satisfy the needs of both the property owner and regulators must be developed.
Environmental remediation deals with the removal of pollution or contaminants from soil, groundwater, sediment, or surface water for the general protection of human health and the environment. Remediation is generally subject to an array of laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels, and also can be based on assessments of human health and ecological risks where no regulatory requirements exist or where standards are advisory.
Environmental remediation technologies are many and varied but can be categorized into ex-situ and in-situ methods. Ex-situ methods involve removing the soil and/or groundwater from the ground and treating it at the surface or disposing of it. In-situ methods seek to treat the contamination without removing the soil and/or groundwater.
Some of the more common types of remediation include excavation, dredging, bioremediation, surfactant enhanced aquifer remediation, pump and treat, solidification and stabilization, in situ oxidation, soil vapor extraction, and natural attenuation.
