Industrial Hygiene Services
Industrial hygiene is the science and art of anticipating, identifying, evaluating, and controlling health hazards. Although some workplaces are more dangerous than others, all work environments have potential short and long term health hazards. These hazards can include: 1) chemical, physical, weather, natural disaster, and biological, 2) faulty work practices and machinery, 3) poor indoor air quality, 4) high noise, and 5) ergonomic.
Total Environmental & Safety, LLC’s (Total) associates include Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIH) and other certified safety professionals with diversified backgrounds, which allow us to provide well rounded comprehensive industrial hygiene surveys.
Some companies choose to have limited industrial hygiene surveys that focus efforts on one or two issues, such as air quality and noise, or chemical handling and storage. And, other companies elect to have a broader survey conducted that identifies and address all potential hazards in an entire facility or specified portion.
An industrial hygiene survey could consists of some or all of the following: 1) a site reconocence to become familiar with building layout, operations, machinery, work practices, and potential hazards, 2) employee interviews, 3) review of existing safety procedures, training records, medical surveillance, past exposure monitoring, and other related documents, 4 air sampling and analysis, 5) noise and heat stress measurements, and 6) ventilation and ergonomic evaluations.
