Brownfield Redevelopment Services
A brownfield site is a real estate property or portion of a property that is contaminated by low concentrations of hazardous waste or pollution, but, otherwise suitable for redevelopment. Sites that are more severely contaminated, such as a Superfund site, do not fall under the brownfield classification.
Brownfield sites are often abandoned, unused, or underused industrial or commercial properties that vary in location, size, age, and past use. Brownfield sites can include large abandoned chemical or manufacturing facility to small properties such as an auto repair shop or dry cleaner.
Brownfield redevelopment is occurring across the country in inner cities, along waterways, even in rural settings. Properties are being transformed into resources that once again have a positive benefit to the surrounding community including residential housing, commercial and retail space, and public amenities such as open space and public parks.
Due to the number of stakeholders involved, brownfield redevelopment projects require an interdisciplinary approach to remediation, and require experience working with developers, communities, investors, lenders, and government agencies.
