This is a follow-up to a blog I published earlier in the year entitled “OSHA’s Getting Tougher Under the Obama Administration”.
OSHA’s Severe Violator Enforcement Program (SVEP) became effective on June 18, 2010, and is intended to be the mechanism that will be used to go after industrial and construction companies who disregard their responsibilities under the OSH Act.
The SVEP focuses enforcement actions on companies who willfully or repeatedly expose employees to workplace hazards. The SVEP will include increased OSHA inspections, mandatory re-inspections of companies found in violation, inspections of other facilities operated by the company, increased cited deficiencies, and increased fines.
